I am a bengal cat who was born in 2005. In the summer of 2012, I was diagnosed as a diabetic cat. I want everyone to know that diabetic cats like me are just as fun and loving as cats without the disease.
Good morning, kind humans. I hope that you enjoyed your weekend. If you are a father, I hope you enjoyed your day. While the human is not my feline father, he is like a human father to me, Jacey, and Koji. So naturally, we felines enjoyed showing him how much we like him being our human father.
Jacey did a lot of talking to him, and she even hopped on his chest and made biscuits. The human liked it, but he did not like Jacey’s sharp nails poking him. Koji decided that it would be a good day to hop on pop, as one of your children’s books say. And I refrained from swatting the human, giving him friendly paw taps instead.
I hope that all of you fathers of humans enjoyed your day with your human children. I also hope that they did not hop on pop if they are too big for that!
Now on to my blood sugar readings for the week. For the week, my blood sugar levels averaged 166. That is similar to what they averaged last week, when they were 153. We had a few days where my blood sugar got lower than the human wanted. But overall, these are good blood sugar levels.
The human is a little concerned about how we are seeing too many blood sugar readings that are lower than we want. We do not know if it is because I do not feel like nomming, or if my insulin dose needs to be adjusted. We will talk to the white coated humans to see if we can drop my insulin dose a little more.
Remember, we have already dropped my normal dose by half a unit of insulin. So we do not want to drop it again, and then see my blood sugar levels climb too high. But we also do not want to risk me getting sick from blood sugar readings that are too low.
This is the tough balancing act the human must do, furiends!
Hello, furiends. It is time for me to tell you about my blood sugar levels. One of the things that affects my blood sugar levels is my nomming. And furiends, I have to tell you, both the human and I laughed at Koji’s nomming technique yesterday.
The human puts two cans of food out in the morning and evening for me and Koji. When he does this, we generally attack the noms and eat a lot of them right away. But then we leave some for later, and go and consume those noms when we want a snack.
Last night, the way that Koji decided to consume that snack made both me and the human laugh. Instead of just eating the noms out of the dish, Koji pulled it out of the dish with his paw. Then he set it on the floor, and nommed on it from the floor!
The human said that Koji was being a dork, and I agree. If he wanted to move some of the noms, he could have left them in the dish! But no, he wanted to move them to the floor. Silly Koji!
Now, on to my blood sugar readings. For the week, my blood sugar levels averaged 153. That is higher than what we saw last week, when they averaged 125. But both the human and I are not too concerned about the average blood sugar reading.
What we are concerned about is that my blood sugar levels dropped way lower than we want a couple of times last week. The human does not think the insulin dose I received was the problem. It was because I did not feel like nomming, and left a lot of food behind. When I do that, my blood sugar level will drop. But then I got very hungry and nommed like crazy, and my blood sugar recovered.
I will tell you about my blood sugar readings for the week next Monday. Hopefully, there will be no really low readings!
Hello, furiends. I hope you enjoyed your weekend. It is time for me to tell you about my blood sugar readings. Before I get to that, the human was not feeling well last week. He went to the white coated humans to get help. And when he went, one of the things they told him to do is to soak in hot water for 15 minutes a few times a day.
In a home of bengal cats, you know what that means. Koji and I immediately started to investigate the tub, since there was water in it. The human may have wanted to soak in peace, but we felines decided that we would join him. And Koji even decided to make sure that the water was good enough for the human!
When Koji was not in the tub, he and I splashed the water. The human was sitting in the tub, and we swatted the water. It was fun making it splash all over the place, even though the human did not like it. Koji even wet his paws and then licked them dry to drink from the tub, furiends.
As for my blood sugar readings for the week, I think they are good. For the week, my blood sugar levels averaged 110. That is much lower than what we saw the week before. But the human and I both think the lower doses of insulin are helping.
You see, furiends, we dropped my insulin dose to prevent my blood sugar levels from dropping too low. And for the week, the lowest reading we saw was 60. Even that reading is not dangerous. We didn’t have any times where the human skipped giving me insulin. And that prevented my blood sugar from spiking.
It seems like the new dosing is working to keep my blood sugar under control without putting me at risk for hypoglycemia. And that, furiends, makes me happy!
